Heading to your first bridal appointment can be very exciting but also very nerve wracking if you don't know what to expect, so here at The Attic we have compiled a list of our top tips for our Brides-to-be.
Bring your heels
Most bridal boutiques will have a pair of heels that you can try on with your dress, but they might not always be in your size or heel height you prefer. So to give yourself the best chance when choosing a dress and bring the heel height you would prefer to wear on the day, also remember comfort is key.
2. Leave the fake tan at home
Most Bridal Boutiques will tell you this while booking your appointment but in case they forget to mention it, fake tan is a big no no when it comes to trying on wedding dresses. Fake tan rubs off very easily onto garments, especially those that our white, so we would recommend to leave it in the bottle, there's nothing worse than trying a dress on that is covered in tan is there?
3. Someone you trust
Who you bring to the wedding dress shopping appointments is very important. Bring someone you trust to help you make this decision may it be your mammy, sister or best friend. Having someone who will support you, make you feel comfortable but also who will also be honest with you is essential. We also recommend not to bring too many, the whole experience can be very overwhelming and having too many opinions can often be more confusing, so keep it to a bare minimum.
4. Limited choices
Like we just said the whole experience can be very overwhelming and tiring for brides especially, so having too many choices can often do more harm than good. Try not to pack in too many bridal shops on the one day or better yet just chose a select few to visit. Visiting too many shops can cause you to forget the majority of the dresses and limited choices can often be the better option.
Before you visit a bridal shop it is advised that you carry out some research before you go, take a look at the website, Instagram, Facebook or Twitter accounts of the shop and make note of the dresses you like that are available, this can help you on the day to start with the dresses you are most excited to try on. It also helps to know what type of dress suits your body shape, don't worry if your not sure, just look at the dresses which you wore before that complimented your shape. The dress you chose might not be what you thought would suit you but it is always a good starting point when finding the one for you!
A handy tool for organising your research is Pinterest, make sure you check out The Attic's Pinterest Page here and create your own board full of fresh inspiration!
While trying on wedding dresses you can get a much better idea of how the dress will look if you have the right underwear with you, we advise to wear nude or white as it's less obvious through the white/ivory dresses. A supportive, strapless bra is also very handy and will go with a lot of dresses for, but always remember comfort is key.
7. An open mind
You might be surprised with what dress you chose in the end as it could be far from your usual style, but this is the time to have fun and try on lots of different style of dresses. Listen to the shop assistant's suggestions, have an open mind and be willing to try new styles!
Most important, ensure you relax and have fun, this is all about you! :)
Hope this helps, looking forward to meeting all our new brides,
